So, this is where the pattern piece ends. I am going to throw one more layer of clear on it to get the entire surface a consistent sheen. The word comes from a sketch done during the faculty forum last week. It is very different from the sketch, but the idea of "speak" as a command and statement has some meaning . . . it becomes decorative and loses some of that meaning or communication which is an interesting contradiction.
Here is a detail to show the layering and build up that has taken place. This piece is approaching the work flow / method of working in the sketchbook . . . so in that regard I think it has been a good exploration. How does that translate into the books? I'm not sure yet, but we'll see.
Here's Ethan's painting from Tuesday night. He managed to escape without getting paint on himself, but I got splattered with pink from about two feet away . . .
Great to see what you did to the speak piece, the layering really shows the history of the work's creation. It's hard to not completely obliterate everything when working this way, and while some layers are completely gone, what remains is good complex visual material.
ReplyDeleteLike you I'm curious to see if this translates into the books, if not, who cares, the piece is nice as is. And of course every effort helps build to something.
I didn't spend much time at all in the studio this past weekend, hammered on that freelance logo instead. That's wrapped and I present it tonight so after that hopefully I can get back to cranking on some work in the basement.
Have you started your duck 360 yet? Pumped to see that one get started.
No progress on the duck. I have done a few studies in the time between grading projects, but most of those won't turn in to anything. I am considering focusing on an animation of the rotation before putting the pieces into the book as I had planned. We'll see what happens. I've been a bit of a bum lately, I should go work for a while...
