ford sketchbook

 Here's a close up of the 'over worked' piece . . .
A few variations of toner transfer of the ruddy duck using spray paint.

Working with the transfer again, using images from one of the current wars with the questions: 'who could love you more' and 'how could you love more.'  I have been thinking of the soldiers who are willing to sacrifice their own lives for others, while fighting individuals who believe the exact same thing, but from the opposite perspective . . .
Same question paired with imagery from the Vietnam War.
A complete set of letters cut from masonite.

  1. I really like the transfer imagery with the duck and spray paint, that visual pairing of a representational image and the abstracted paint marks holds my attention. I really like the one where the duck is pointed down towards the bottom of the page and is almost in complete silhouette. Maybe because it's different than all of the others or maybe because it's form is a bit abstracted.

Is that a red plastic overlay on the third image from the bottom?

I forgot my camera at home this morning, which sucks because I have a little time this morning to post images from last night. Oh well, soon.

  2. I am interested in the way the spray paint loosens the illustration a bit, and adds another opportunity for some random chance, or a bit of non-control.

The plastic is actually a sheet of film meant to temporarily fix a broken taillight. That was something I had purchased before I bit the bullet and bought the new light for the goose a couple of months ago.

I just realized that the oil piece and the ruddy duck relate in that they both deal (in some manner) with water fowl. The oil project is a collection of droppings (drippings) from the grey goose and the duck, well is a bit more obvious.

That is weird. So, I spent all of about forty-five minutes in the studio today and a great deal of that was taking out the trash and recycling.

Tomorrow is the judging for the student show. Starting at 8:30am. I am hoping to be done by 5pm.Fun.
